Talk about searching for a higher power, this may make you scratch your head. Catholic Online reported on Friday that last week a man walked into a courtroom in Haifa, Israel, hoping that the local Magistrate would see his way clear to issue a restraining order for him, against God. Since the initiator of the complaint was taking a stand against God, you can be fairly certain that the words “as God is MY witness” never passed his lips in the hearing.
According to Newsweek, the man reported he had been suffering a series of extremely unkind acts done upon him by the Almighty for at least the last three years. The local police record shows that the ‘victim’ had filed multiple complaints against God, which only resulted in multiple cases of patrol cars showing up at his residence. It is unclear as to exactly what series of misfortunes had befallen the man, but one of the police suggested that he take out the restraining order. From his lips, apparently, to God’s ears. Or something along those lines.
Though He. or She, is said by some to be everywhere, it is not certain if God was actually present in the court at the time of the hearing. The case was dismissed by the Magistrate, with the suggestion that the petitioner seek help, though not of the religious kind.
This case was not without precedent; in 2008, Senator Ernie Chambers filed a suit against God in the great state of Nebraska, seeking an injunction against what the Senator perceived as ‘harmful activities.’ According to court documents, that case was dismissed without prejudice as well, since the Judge found that God could not be properly notified, not having an actual address. Apparently, when you live everywhere, narrowing down a summons to serve God can be a tricky situation for a process server
