Today, General Mills announced there will be a new face on select Trix cereal boxes, at least for a short time. According to TwinCities, a Houston-based Holland Lop bunny named Cinnabun will appear on upcoming packaging of the cereal, which was first introduced to consumers in 1955. The tiny ball of fur, weighing only two-pounds, beat out 7500 other rabbits in the company’s nationwide search for a new mascot.
To showcase this announcement, rabbit lovers were able to hop in and pat the winning bunny. Cinnabun made his first public appearance at a Kroger store in Houston for the big unveiling ceremony. Prior to his appearance, Cinnabun received the complete ‘V.I.B.’, Very Important Bunny, treatment in his hometown, including chauffeured limousine service to local news stations. This rollout was in conjunction with the corporate decision in 2015 to remove artificial flavors and colors from artificial sources from their cereals, and go with more natural additives. They held an onlinesearch for one rabbit to become the honorary face of Trix in their hometown and received submissions from bunny-lovers everywhere.
Cinnabon’s young owner, Natalie Tran, says, “It’s kind of unbelievable that they picked him out of thousands of bunnies.” According to the Trix cereal team, fans were extremely creative with their submissions, but this adorable white and fawn furball just jumped into the forefront. This is the first time the silly, tricky Trix rabbit will share his cereal box with anyone.
