A bizarre murder-suicide being reported from Austria. According sources, police believe that a man in his 70’s strangled his 71-year-old wife to death, dismembered her, then drowned himself in an Austrian lake with a concrete block containing her severed head.
The man’s corpse was found by police in Traunsee, a lake near the Austrian-German border. The man is believed to be a German citizen. Officials report that the head was found in the concrete block, in a bag attached to the man’s hand. His other hand was weighed down as well.
There has been no further identification of the couple at this time. Additional remains from the woman were reportedly found floating in two suitcases close the the lake’s shore near the town of Gmunden, Austria, 24 hours before the most recent gruesome find. The discovery of the original remains were what prompted police to send divers into the water. The man’s remains were found by the divers at the bottom of the lake. Examination of the remains suggest the woman was strangled in late December. No additional foul play is believed to be part of this crime; according to the BBC, Austrian authorities believe the man’s death is a suicide.
